What should I know about Xylitol in our Sugar-Free Concentrates?

We believe in clear labels and informed choices. Here’s what you should know about xylitol in our sugar-free range, in plain language.

WHAT WE USE

GUDGU is designed to give you full flavour without sugar and zero aftertaste.

It took us 6 months to develop our sugar replacement called Sug”0”. We use carefully selected sweeteners to achieve that balance, including xylitol and stevia. The most important part is Zero Aftertaste.

We use a xylitol + steviol extract blend.

Because it’s a blend, our recipe uses less xylitol than a xylitol-only sweetened product, and our concentrates are very concentrated – so you only need a small amount for big flavour.

What is Stevia?

Stevia comes from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant.

It’s used as a sweetener because:

  • It is significantly sweeter than sugar
  • It contains no calories
  • It does not raise blood sugar levels

Because it’s very potent, only small amounts are needed.

Why Use Both?

Using only one sweetener often creates a problem:

  • Xylitol alone can lack intensity
  • Stevia alone can have a strong aftertaste

By combining them, we took 6 months to developed our sugar replacement brand called Sug”0” and you get:

  • Zero Aftertaste
  • A more balanced sweetness you can enjoy
  • A cleaner taste profile
  • A result that feels closer to sugar
  • Avoid sugar spikes
  • Stay aligned with your goals

The goal is simple: Make something that tastes right, not just something that ticks a box.

Assumptions we make: Most people focus on whether an ingredient is “good” or “bad.”

A better question is: Is this a better option than what I would normally have?

Compared to high-sugar drinks, using a blend of xylitol and stevia gives you:

  • Zero sugar
  • More control
  • A more sustainable way to enjoy flavour

Important Notes

  • Some people may be sensitive to sugar alcohols like xylitol in large amounts
  • Stevia is very concentrated, so only small amounts are used
  • Xylitol is harmful to dogs and should always be kept out of reach of pets

Here we will challenge you: You don’t need perfection. You need clarity, balance, and better choices you can stick to.

How to use it

Our sugar-free concentrates are strong – you only need a small amount.

Mixing guide: Dilute 1:6 (or to taste) with still water, sparkling water, or soda water.

Portion tip: If you’re new to xylitol or sensitive to sugar alcohols, start with a lighter mix and see how you feel.

Can xylitol cause side effects?

For most people, xylitol is well tolerated, but too much can cause digestive discomfort (like gas, bloating, or diarrhoea). This is a known effect of sugar alcohols, especially at higher intakes.

A simple approach: Start small, and increase gradually if needed.

COMMON MYTHS ABOUT XYLITOL

“Xylitol is dangerous” – In large amounts, anything is. Used correctly, it’s widely used and well understood.

“It’s unnatural” – It occurs naturally. What matters is how it’s processed and used.

“It causes issues for everyone” – Some people may be sensitive in large amounts. Most tolerate it well in normal servings.

OUR PROMISE AT GUDGU

We list xylitol clearly on our ingredient lists and aim to be transparent so you can make the choice that suits you.
